Today digg and some other sites have been buzzing with photos found here, which are claimed to be of rare pig-sheep crossbreeds that possess pig-like bacony goodness and sheep-like woolly coats. This really amazed me, but was obviously somehow wrong.
Perhaps the largest clue to this was that the only sites google showed on the first page was the one linked to above or sites linking to it. For something of the magnitude of ham sweaters, some news agency or scientific journal would have an article.
Eventually, I was able to find Pig Paradise Farms, which helps protect rare breeds of pigs. They have the same photos, revealing that they are of Hungarian Mangalitza pigs. Apparently it is a rare species raised for its robust nature in Hungary and Austria. The Paradise Farms are now working on a separate population of the three color varieties, to assist in preserving the species.
