Archaeology Links Rundown

There is a lot of interesting news out there in the archaeology world, and much of it has nothing to do with the Talpiot Tomb.

First, Maney Publishing is offering a thirty day free access period to a variety of archaeology periodicals online. This is a good chance to look over some journals you might otherwise miss. Story via the European Journal of Archaeology.

Twenty-five years ago, a man stole a boomerang from a museum in Australia. This week, with a check, he returned it through the mail, stating that he believed it was the right thing to do. I certainly think its great that this person took the effort and the risk to return an artifact, hopefully his story can inspire others or at the very least educate them about the problem of stealing artifacts. Judith Weingarten has another great piece up on Zoroastrianism in ancient Persia. Soon, she will return to Rome in her study of the queen, but make sure to read this article before that.

Aardvarchaeology spotlights a new move in scholarship, an online festschrift, specifically one for Jenny-Rita Naess. While I prefer the idea of a physical volume myself, festschrift are often hard to get a hold of, but still extremely important works presenting necessary articles. If the move to publish them online is successful, it may very well solve one of the major problems in scholarly publication.
