PZ Myers has an interesting post over at Pharyngula today. Apparently he went to see Expelled at the Mall of America, and was asked to leave. This is interesting for three reasons.
- PZ is actually in the movie. He was interviewed and appears as one of the scientists oppose to creationism.
- The entire purpose of Expelled is to deal with the idea that keeping creationists out of higher education is somehow wrong. Apparently, keeping scientists out of theaters talking about keeping religious nuts out of colleges is ok.
- For point three, you will have to go over to Pharyngula, because I don’t want to spoil it completely. It’s worth going to find out

Myers is, of course, presented as part of their exhibit of the supposed ideological inevitability of evolutionary theory.
Of course, they never bother to tell you that Myers was interviewed about his opinions on the intersection between science and religion, rather than directly about the objective merits of evolutionary science. And of course they don’t mention the countless openly, proudly religious scientists who operate without fearing “expulsion.”
Aside from the fact that Ben Stein is a douche–yet perhaps wisely orchestrating a scandal which will prove good for the box office–it seems to me to be a chicken coming home to roost.
PZ, and several other pseudo-progressive bloggers have a nasty nasty habit of censoring or ‘expelling’ the views of people they disagree with in blog posts and then “disemvoweling” them, lying about them and having a general hey day leveling flasehoods/presumptions, etc. amongst their own minions.
The chicken has evoved into a vulture, doing on a larger scale the same carniverous activity that is done on the smaller scale progressive blogs daily.
