Where is this Book?

This semester has been somewhat eye opening to me about the ability of otherwise intelligent people to accept the loads of crap produced by alternative medicine proponents. This is largely because of my stint as a TA for a medical anthropology class, which is a bit too accepting of such pseudo-scientific claims.

About a month ago, Podblack Blog spotlighted a book called Suckers: How Alternative Medicine Makes Fools of Us All, by Rose Shapiro. I desperately want this book, but am quite reluctant to order it from overseas. This not only increase cost and time to delivery, but makes me feel bad for shipping one book all the way across the Atlantic. Additionally, I have gift certificates to Borders and Amazon, which I can only use on the American stores.

Amazon US says that the book should be out, with a release date of March 18th, 2008. However, Amazon, Borders, and Barnes and Noble fail to have it in stock. I would also prefer not to buy from the other sellers listed on Amazon, as I have in many cases waited for very long periods for such shipments to arrive.

So, here is my question, does anyone out there know when this book will be available in some mainstream form in the US?

  1. Publishers seems to have a tendency to give Amazon and the other online bookstores an estimated arrival date fairly early in the process. If the schedule gets delayed (author doesn’t hand in the book in time, for instance), notifying Amazon is not high on the publisher’s list of priorities.

I personally wouldn’t buy it until they have it in stock.
